Marchtown Comes Home to the Village
An exciting new off-licence drinks retailer, wine & beer bar, and events and activities venue opened in the village on 16th March 2017. Marchtown is the legal name given by the owners Maxwell family of Nether Pollok to the land in which Strathbungo now stands. The name reflects the fact that the village was located on the border of Lanarkshire and Renfrewshire. March meaning border. Although the border has long since been redrawn but if you walk down March Street in the village, you can still see the Monogram of Renfrewshire County Council 'RCC' on the building which was once the Renfrewshire Police Station.
The people who brought Little Botanica to the village are behind the new venture and Marchtown is located in its former premises at 741 Pollokshaws Road. Opening times are Thursday to Sunday 11am to 11pm. Website here. http://marchtown.co.uk/

This looks great. But why are you referring to strathbungo as " the village"? Dom.
ReplyDeleteBecause unlike our neighbour Pollokshields, Strathbungo never became a burgh before being absorbed into Glasgow. There's also some confusion with the Regents Park area being labelled as 'Strathbungo Conservation Area' whilst the village consists of a larger area, from Titwood Road to Maxwell Road an from the railway line to Victoria Road. I hope this helps and thanks for the kind words.
